Exhibitions

Since 2016, we have been working together with local artists to devise and produce an exhibition of contemporary artists; KA U'I.

Curated by artist Macarena Oñate, the show has been presented in four spaces. Each time artists and works have been added, turning the project into a process that is still ongoing as an instance of experimentation and research.

Excerpt from de curatorial text;

“Tourism on its part has strongly influenced the development of craftwork, music and folkloric dance.

This is how the emphasis on the protection and transmission of traditional knowledge impose a conservation-oriented outlook, taking away attention from contemporary artistic and cultural expressions.

This need for reclaiming a cultural identity that was negated and lost in time has led to a production that permanently remits to and seeks a resonance in the past, consolidating the pride of an “ancestral” cultural identity.

This group exhibition explores the contemporary production of artists from other fields; craftwork, souvenirs, folklore, documentary work. In some cases they are mere nods, unnoticed; the transition toward an art space could even be conceived here as a transmutation of what is handcraft or folkloric towards a contemporary reading.”
